Bathing, Dressing and Grooming Help in Coconut Creek

Wet tile produces more serious household falls than any other surface, and the help is usually needed on two or three days rather than seven.

Fixing the days ends the argument

The opening description is nearly always of something daily, because the worry itself is daily. The written plan nearly always lands on two or three set days, with the grooming folded into those same visits.

Fixing them is what stops the morning negotiation. No one has to work out on a Tuesday whether today is a washing day; the aide turns up already knowing, and that is how a wash stops being skipped.

This is usually booked inside an existing aide or personal care visit rather than as a separate call-out, which keeps the weekly cost down.

What the visit handles

Close physical help, on the days the plan names and nowhere near a clinical task.

Getting in and out

The most dangerous half minute of the whole business, managed with a steadying hand where it is needed and the rails already on the wall.

Washing

Shower, bath or basin, at a comfortable pace, with dignity counted as part of the work instead of something remembered afterwards.

Drying, then clothes

Fully dry before anything goes on, and then dressing in whatever order suits the stiffest joint that morning.

Hair, shave and nails

The grooming that lapses first once somebody is coping unaided, and the part that does most to change how somebody carries themselves through the day.

Hazards reported

A mat that slides, a bulb gone dim, a rail with play in it. Recorded and phoned through instead of waiting to be spotted.

Reasonable points to start

  • Somebody has slipped, or very nearly slipped, in there
  • Washing is being put off, and the reason is fear
  • Stepping over the bath edge has turned into an argument
  • Hair and nails have gradually been given up on
  • A relative is helping and both of them hate it

Pick the days and stop revisiting them

Tell us realistically how often it is wanted, and those days are written into the plan before a first visit.
